At Camp Jewell YMCA’s Hide-a-Way Ranch, our sleepaway equestrian camp offers a unique experience for both beginner and advanced riders. Set in a traditional camp environment with a special focus on horseback riding, this program is centered around English-style riding and comprehensive horse care. These shared experiences bring campers together in a way that fosters deep connections, not only within their cabins and riding groups but also with the staff and each other. Through learning to care for horses and supporting one another, campers form strong bonds that are the foundation of lasting friendships and memories. Our Progressive Programs

At Ranch Camp, we create an environment where campers not only learn horse care and participate in activities like trail rides but also develop their skills in English-style riding. To celebrate their achievements, we introduced the Neckerchief Achievement Awards, which recognize campers’ horsemanship knowledge and participation in Ranch activities. With nine levels, from Junior to Wrangler, these awards are a respected part of Ranch tradition. While participation in the Neckerchief Awards is optional, it remains a deeply rooted and honored aspect of our camp culture.

At Ranch Camp, our 1 to 3 staff-to-camper ratio ensures that each camper receives personalized attention, allowing riders of all abilities to improve their skills under the guidance of our highly trained horseback riding instructors.

We offer a range of equestrian programs tailored to different age groups, all structured as two-week sessions. Our programs provide age-appropriate, and enriching experience for every camper.

Campers participate in a variety of equestrian activities, including trail rides, vaulting, and off-horse lessons. Whether they are beginners or advanced riders, our English-style riding instructors and counselors provide personalized attention, ensuring each camper has an enriching and enjoyable experience.
