What Is Tiered Pricing?

Tiered pricing is a simple, transparent system that lets families choose the camp fee that works best for their budget—without impacting their child’s experience.

Every camper receives the same programs, cabins, activities, meals, instruction, and level of care, regardless of which tier their family selects.

Most YMCA camps offer three tiers (sometimes more), each representing a different level of financial flexibility:

• Tier 3 – The lowest rate, supported by donors, sponsors, and the YMCA Annual Campaign.

• Tier 2 – A partially subsidized rate for families who can contribute more but still need support.

• Tier 1 – The standard, most sustainable rate that reflects the true cost of camp.

Families self-select the tier that fits their financial situation—no application, no paperwork, no questions asked.

How to Choose Your Tier

When registering, families simply select the tier that aligns with their budget. There’s no approval process, just an honest choice based on what you can afford.

A common guideline looks like this:

• Choose Tier 3 if you need the most support.

• Choose Tier 2 if you can pay a bit more but still need a discount.

• Choose Tier 1 if you can comfortably pay the full rate and want to help sustain camp for all families.

Many YMCA camps also offer additional financial assistance (at Camp Jewell we call this Tier 4) for households with specific income or life circumstances. At Camp Jewell YMCA, for example, families with a household income under $100,000 qualify for financial aid, and additional scholarship support is available when needed—thanks to our donors and Annual Campaign.

What’s Included in Camp Pricing?

Regardless of tier, YMCA camp fees typically include:

• Cabin lodging

• All meals and snacks

• Daily supervision from trained staff

• All program areas (waterfront, ropes courses, arts, sports, nature, horseback riding depending on camp)

• Evening programs and special events

• 24/7 medical care access

• Camp T-shirt or other welcome swag (varies by camp)

Support from alumni, families, community partners, and foundations helps offset the true cost of camp—making Tier 4, 3 and Tier 2 possible.

Every year, YMCA volunteers and staff raise money to ensure no child is turned away due to financial need. This campaign directly funds camp scholarships and tiered pricing subsidies.

3. Families Who Choose Tier 1

When families who are able choose the full rate, they directly help support another child whose family needs assistance.
