Camp Jewell’s Hide-A-Way Ranch is the only full YMCA equestrian program in Connecticut. Here, riders ages 7–16 learn English-style riding, horse care, and barn management while building confidence and leadership skills.
With a 1:3 staff-to-camper ratio, certified instructors, and nine progressive Neckerchief Achievement Levels, every rider — from beginner to advanced — gets personalized attention. Ranch campers also enjoy classic camp fun like swimming, climbing, and campfires, giving them the best of both worlds.

A Sleepaway Experience Rooted in Belonging
At the heart of Camp Jewell is our Sleepaway Camp, welcoming campers ages 7–15 for two-week sessions filled with adventure, creativity, and connection.
From canoeing and archery to drama, art, and team sports, campers design their own days while forming friendships that last long after summer ends. Each program is guided by the YMCA’s core values — Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Inclusion — ensuring that every child feels safe, supported, and valued.

Leadership That Lasts a Lifetime
Leadership isn’t just something we teach — it’s part of everything we do.
Camp Jewell’s Leaders-in-Training (LIT) and Counselors-in-Training (CIT) programs give teens the chance to develop communication, problem-solving, and mentoring skills in real-world settings. These programs help campers grow into confident young adults who make a difference in their schools, communities, and future careers.
Many of our current staff started out as LITs or CITs at Jewell, proving that leadership truly starts here.

Our Tiered Pricing model and Financial Assistance program allow families to pay what they can afford, with the same high-quality experience for every camper. For 2026, families with annual household incomes under $100,000 can qualify for additional financial support.
