A CAMP FOR ADOPTED CHILDREN

Camp Clio will be held Session 3 (July 21-August 3, 2024)

“Why was my family created differently?” Adopted children, whether adopted internationally, domestically or through foster care, share this same basic question. Though each child’s story is different, many of them face questions like “Who is your real mom? Why did she give you away?” Adopted children need a comfortable, non-judgmental place to try to understand their birth story – to realize others share these same issues and that they are not alone. Clio Village provides this opportunity in a fun, old-fashioned camp setting with other adopted children and adopted counselors who share their cabins and act as role models. Camp Clio is for adopted children ages 9 – 15 and is held during our 3rd Session. Click here for the registration form.

THE CLIO VILLAGE

Campers will participate in all of the normal camp activities and programs- the biggest difference is ALL of the campers are adopted themselves and they will have counselors who were adopted as children.

Our program of fun exploration creates a positive outlet for ideas, emotions, healthy body attitudes and personal expression through movement and crafts encouraging campers to increase self-awareness and enhance self-esteem. Clio village adopted counselors will serve as role models and help facilitate adoption conversations by sharing their own experiences. Within Camp Clio Village, campers are free to share their adoptions stories with other adoptees…to whisper to a bunkmate what they never told anyone before, to say to themselves, “These other kids are adopted too. They’re like me. I like them. They like me. I guess it’s o.k. to like me — and adoption — too.”

All counselors and staff attend workshops lead by social workers who are specialists in adoption issues including how to facilitate conversations about adoption and how to guide the conversation in a positive direction.

Once each week Camp Clio campers and counselors enjoy a special discussion period exclusively for adopted children. Led by licensed social workers from the Center for Adoption Support and Education (CASE), the relaxed camp atmosphere and activities of a provides the perfect opportunity for an informal discussion about adoption for those campers who choose to actively participate or just listen. While encouraged, attendance is a personal choice.
