Quality Programs & Long-Standing Traditions

Our sleepaway equestrian camp – Hide-a-Way Ranch, at Camp Jewell YMCA is an amazing opportunity for beginner and advanced riders  to experience a traditional camp setting with a special equestrian focus. English style horseback riding and horse care form the cornerstone of this program and bring together campers who attend in ways that you won’t find anywhere else. Not only do campers build relationships within their cabins, horseback riding groups, and the staff among other campers – they also gain an understanding of how to care both for horses and each other, allowing them to bond over these common experiences. Quality programs such as these create long-standing traditions that will last for years to come.

Ranch Camp

Our Progressive Programs

At Ranch camp, we take pride in offering an environment where campers can learn how to care for horses, participate in activities such as trail rides, and gain skills in English style riding. To further acknowledge the accomplishments of our ranch campers and provide them with a sense of purpose at camp, we launched the Neckerchief Achievement Awards. These awards are based on horsemanship knowledge, the ability to obtain assigned skills related to horseback riding, and getting involved in everything Ranch has to offer. With 9 levels of Neckercheifs available (such as Junior, Filly, Greenhorn, Colt, Yearling), only a handful of campers each summer are able to reach the Jr. Wrangler and Wrangler levels due to it being such an honourable and highly commendable accomplishment – awarding one with great respect among Ranch peers. Although participating in the Neckerchief Awards is not mandatory for all campers, it is deeply rooted within Ranch traditions.

Quality Staff Make The Difference.

Our 1 to 3 staff to camper ratio coupled with our highly trained horseback riding instructors ensure that riders of all abilities are given the time and attention to improve their riding skills and talents.

We offer a variety of equestrian programs based on each camper’s age. All of our Ranch Camp options are offered as a two-week program.  Junior Ranch is offered for ages 7-9, Drivers is offered for ages 10-11 and Top Hands for ages 12-16.

Focusing On The Individual

Ranch Camp is the perfect place for kids to explore their love of horses and riding! At Ranch Camp, all campers can participate in a variety of equestrian related activities such as trail rides, vaulting, and off-horse lessons.
