Smart Packing
Katherine Kaczmarski, Ranch Camper

When you pack for Camp Jewell, you round up all your stuff on the packing list, such as bug-spray, put your more than slightly dirty shoes in a plastic bag, then wonder, “Now what?” at the empty corner of your bag. These items about to be mentioned deserve some thought.

If you haven’t heard of siesta, it’s a one hour break from all the action to rest inside your cabin. You can sleep, but if you’re anything like I am, you despise naps. Fun is what you need! For siesta, I would recommend bringing playing cards, board games, duck tape, (lots of fun) or dominoes for towers. Not in the mood? Writing a letter home is always a great idea. Be sure to bring stamps! You can tell your family all about past, current, and upcoming events, or maybe even send back a doodle of something you discovered.

But you can’t bring everything! You wouldn’t want to bring food, it attracts bugs and animals. Yuck! In addition, technology is also a no-no. You might be thinking: “I can’t live without my _________! Believe me, I know from experience. Why play a frog game when you can find a real frog on the trail?! Why play a virtual lax game when you can bring a lax stick and ball, and play it for real?! UNPLUG!!! If by the end of summer you’ve gone a week without tech and know the joys, go you! To sum it up, nothing with an offon switch can do you any good.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks packing is a hassle. But surely, with this list, you’ll not only stay within the rules, but have a blast.
